Castel Sant Angelo
Rome Italy's Castel Sant Angelo. Built on Hadrian's tomb (erected 138 AD), it was converted to a fortress in 401 AD as part of Honorius' defensive city wall and was used by numerous Popes as a defensive fort to protect the Vatican from invaders.
